One of the keys to improve your time in the 40 yard dash is the stance.  You need to make sure you know how to get in the right position.  It you are right side dominate then you need to make sure your right leg is the far leg back.  Get in a 3 point stance.  The hand that in on the ground is the one with the leg back.   So if your right leg is the far leg back then the right had will be down in front of  that leg.  Both feet should be up on the balls of the feet so you can minimize ground contact and get maximal force from the ground.  The left hand should be bent at a 90 degree angle with the hand next to the hip.  The left foot should be about 6-12 inches behind the yard line with the right foot toes in line with the heel of the left foot.

This position might not feel the best at first but with practice you will feel much better.  You have to remember it is a 40 yard dash not a 42 or 43 yard dash so keep yourself close to the line but in a comfortable position.  The last thing is make sure to keep your eyes looking down at the ground not straight ahead.  These simple little tips could help you improve your time in the 40 yard dash and running a 4.59 is much better than running a 4.7 and that might be the difference you need to get noticed by that college scout.
