The Box push-up is a great exercise to use to mix up your regular push-up routine and also to provide explosive upper body power.  To perform this exercise correctly you first need to make sure you can do a regular push-up correctly.  If you can do a regular push-up then you can move up to the explosive or clap push-up.  If you do not know how to perform this exercise go to my blog post on explosive push-up dated March 15th.  The box push-up consists of doing a regular push-up and then exploding up to the box going right into a push-up on the box then exploding back down to the groud .

Start out doing this for 3 to 5 reps,  How you want to count the reps is a push-up on the ground and then a push-up on the box counts as 1.  The focus is working your upper body power, particularly your chest, shoulders and triceps.

Too many times we as trainers, athletes and coaches, neglect working upper body explosion, but it is important to make a complete athlete.  Watch the video to see how this exercise is performed.  For questions or for more explosion exercises look back over  this blog site or visit www.exsp.biz.  Feel free to email me with any questions at [email protected]
