The third exercise in the Explosive Training series. The Single leg jump, a great explosive move geared at gauging wether one leg is stronger then the other. This is very important in determining if one side is weaker then the other. With this exercise you can see what you need to work on to improve your explosiveness. Too many times we as athletes rely on both legs to do so much of the work, when this happens we tend to have our dominate leg do more of the work so the weaker leg never gets a chance to improve. This exercise like other ones out there can help highlight the weaker leg.
When you perform this exercise make sure you focus on exploding as high as possible and land with a bent knee and soft. If you are struggling to land on one leg then first start out by landing on two until you gain your confidence in landing on one. Make sure you check out the other explosive exercises in this series by reading the other blogs, on Band Hip Flexor, and the Tuck Jump.

Dave, this is a great exercise due to the fact that it is performed for MAX height, not a fixed point like a box or platform. It keeps athletes focused on 100% effort, not a random height and also allows for fatigue without failure, which is great. Same with Tuck Jumps! Nice job. Your competition focuses on equipment related solutions, this is a timeless exercise.

Thanks for the comment. I agree about the max height and having the athletes work to fatigue. Great comment and keep them coming. Next blog will be posted tomorrow on an upper body explosion execise.
